Child arrested in Jackson County fire

RIPLEY, W.Va. –The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reports a seven year old child is in custody and charged with arson.

According to a social media post, deputies with the assistance of the West Virginia State Fire Marshal arrested the child for allegedly setting fire to the family home while both parents slept inside. Two individuals suffered minor burns in the fire, but escaped .

The home was a total loss.

“No further information will be released regarding the investigation because of the sensitive nature of the case.
Special thanks goes out this evening to the responding volunteer fire departments and the WV State Fire Marshal’s Office.” read the post.
