84 Lumber opens new Morgantown store with two day celebration

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A new 84 Lumber location in Morgantown will host a two-day grand opening with giveaways, chances to win prizes, and a public look at the new larger facility.

The event at 3208 Earl Core Road Friday and Saturday begins at 11 a.m. each day.

Amy Smiley

Amy Smiley, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, said the event includes giveaways, a ferris wheel, food trucks, Paul Bunyan games, and chances to win prizes. WVU athletes will attend both days for meet-and-greets with customers. On Friday, football players Nicco Marchiol and CJ Donaldson will attend, and on Saturday, basketball player Tre Mitchell and football player Lee Kpogba are scheduled to be at the event.

“When we talk about the 84 family, that’s not just associates that work here; that’s customers,” Smiley said. “That’s also the community where our stores are; we don’t want to be just another business; we want to be part of the community.”

Their former location in Sabraton was a little more than four acres, and the operation just didn’t have enough room. Smiley cited the robust Morgantown area economy with expanding businesses and a growing residential market as reasons for the need for a larger facility.

“Our new location is over 10 acres, so we’re able to carry products,” Smiley said. “Morgantown is growing, and we’re helping to build houses, helping to develop the area.”

A larger facility allows them to display more products and add hands-on components for contractors and the “do it yourself” crowd.

“We also have a second story, which we didn’t have at our other location,” Smiley said. “The top floor is an entire design showroom, so we’ve got kitchen displays and sample laundry rooms.”

Smiley said they’ll also be giving away 3′ x 5′ United States flags and providing opportunities to sign a banner for those in the armed forces.

“We’re giving away free United States flags,” Smiley said. ”

People can come and sign a banner, and they can get a flag in honor of their current military family member or a neighbor veteran—we just want people to be able to hang those flags.”
